Accession number: CAS[1317-36-8]; CI 77577
Structural formula: PbO
Molecular Weight: 223.20
Pigment properties:
Yellow tetragonal powder. The density is 9.53g/cm3. Melting point 885 °c. Boiling point 1470 °c. When heated to 300~450 °C, it becomes lead tetroxide, and when it continues to rise, it becomes lead monoxide. Insoluble in water and ethanol, soluble in acetone, nitric acid, liquid alkali, ammonium chloride. It can undergo sclerotic reaction with glycerol. Poisonous.
Pigment preparation method:
Lead is heated and melted to make lead particles, then ground at 170~210 °C, roasted and oxidized at a high temperature above 600 °C, and then crushed to obtain lead monoxide.
2Pb+O2 → 2PbO
Quality standard: GB 3677-83

Use:
It is used in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride plastic stabilizers. It is the raw material for other lead salts. In the paint industry, it is used as a drier in coatings and oil to make lead soap. It is used as a plane abrasive for the manufacture of high refractive index optical glass, ceramic enamel, and precision machine tools, and is a medical raw material and rubber colorant. It is also used in the manufacture of battery plates and petroleum refining.
